Just too Eggcited

Motherhood, I have come to realize, is all about sacrifice. Never was I reminded of that fact so dearly than tonight, as we dyed Easter eggs. I never remember my mom dying eggs with us when we were kids (that's not to say she didn't, I just don't remember it). I do remember going over to my grandma's house and having her dye eggs with us...and we loved it! Well, as I've grown into my adulthood, I've also developed an abhorrence for all things mess related. This would include but is not limited to: painting, play-doe, sand boxes, blocks, Lincoln logs, Lego's, kids using scissors and babies feeding themselves. This being said, I DO let my kids do these things...I just don't like it. :)
In all honesty though, the egg dying wasn't nearly as tragic as I was imaging and we actually did have some fun. We're celebrating Easter early (this weekend) because me and the girls will be in Utah during actual Easter. We're all ready now for our egg hunt on Saturday and I'm proud that our few meager home dyed eggs will be in the mix. Happy Easter!

Fort Knox

So I've had these boxes and cardboard partitions that our piano was shipped in for a couple months now and Matt has been bugging me like crazy to either use them or get rid of them. Now, being in the Primary, I kept telling myself that I could no way get rid of these great boxes and pieces of cardboard because surely there was something totally awesome to use them for. Well, I got tired of waiting and having them junk up my computer room, so I finally did use them, but not for something as cool as I'd first imagined (I was thinking time machine or rocket ship...oh well).

Last week I used the huge box for our primary activity and painted a little ocean scene on it and the kids got to "swim" through it and find packets of Swedish fish. It was really cute and fun for the little kids, the big kids were a little, um...big.

The last week it seems, every night if Jenna is good for scriptures and prayers, her reward is that we build and play in a "fort" for the last 30 minutes before bed. It's nothing fancy and I'm sure all the mom's with boys will laugh at our meager attempt. But I'm used to bracelets and bows, not forts!!

Spaghetti Time

Tonight was Brooke's first time eating spaghetti...talk about pure joy! I've never seen a little baby seem so deviously excited about something. Too cute! It makes me wish she could just eat Cheerios forever.

Spring...you deceitful temptress

This was the first warm weekend we've had and I can feel Spring in the air. We had such a fun weekend in the warm weather and I've convinced myself that Winter is over and will never come again (even though it's supposed to snow tomorrow!!)

I kicked off our great weekend by cleaning the floor of the garage. Now, as those of you who live in Columbia will attest, they put black ash on the streets when it's snowy or icy to help it be less slippery. Well, this black ash had accumulated to obscene proportions on the floor of my garage and was basically just thoroughly disgusting. It felt SO good on Friday to take a bucket full of Oxyclean and scrub down my entire garage floor. A little, oxyclean, elbow grease, a hose and an hour later and that floor was clean enough to eat off...well...at least walk on with bare feet.

That night we took the girls swimming and had a blast. Jenna LOVES to swim and is getting braver and braver every time we go. I think this summer I want to get us a season pass to a local pool here, because I know we could spend many hours of fun out at the pool. This was Brooke's first time swimming and other than being a bit cold, she had a pretty fun time.
Saturday we tried to go to the park and have a picnic for dinner...but then, so did the entire city of Columbia (and their dogs). So, once we pulled into Cosmo Park and realized that there was no way in heck I was going to be able to handle the crowd, we went home and barbecued and played on the swing set in the backyard. Still, a super fun day.
This little glimpse of warm weather heaven has really made me long for Springtime and the ability to actually spend some of our day somewhere other than cramped up inside our little house!
