STOMP

So the last time I posted an entry about Matt and I seeing a show together at Jesse Hall, it was 2 Christmas's ago and I was banging my head against the wall after enduring The Nutcracker. This time, I'm happy to report, I LOVED STOMP and had a fantastic time tonight.

If you're not familiar with STOMP, it's percussion/dance/music/athleticism/rhythm/comedy/sheer amazingness all rolled into one show. They take everyday objects and make music from them in some pretty amazing ways. My favorite numbers were the brooms, the cigarette lighters, the sticks and most of all, the thing they are most famous for, the trash cans/lids. It was awesome! I can't stop my feet from tapping. Even my typing on the keyboard sounds like it's got a beat and a rhythm to it. :)
We wanted to see them on Broadway while we were in NYC but sadly we didn't get the chance. I'm so glad the touring company came to Columbia. What a treat!

I have kids...weird

So I am slowly coming to the realization that I no longer have a baby anymore, but an actual kid. I can't say that I'm sad about this. You all know I'm not a very baby-ish person, so for me, this is liberation in its greatest form. Here is what I love about not having a baby:
  • When we go to the gym, everyone can hop out of the car and run in by themselves.
  • They can get in their car seats by themselves.
  • They can sit and eat by themselves and call me for help when they need more or are finished, thus allowing me to leave the kitchen (usually this means head back to bed in the AM) while they eat.
  • They can put their shoes on by themselves....HALLELUJAH!
  • They can play with each other (and fight with each other, but I forgot, this is my PROS list).
  • They can tell you what they want!
  • They can be put in timeout b/c they know when they are being naughty.
  • They can play games and understand some of the rules.
  • They can get fun concepts like "going to Sonic for a treat" or "birthdays."

Well, the list goes on, but I think you get the point. The final act of debabyzation that happened in our household was the official Dismantling of the Crib ceremony. I would have loved to chuck the thing out of a 10 story building (not because it wasn't a great crib, but just as a visual representation of that phase being OVER!) but it wasn't ours. And I don't think my aunt would appreciate her crib returned in 300 slivered pieces.

Here's what I'll miss about having a baby:
  • Feeding them bottles. I love when they cozy up to you to drink a bottle. This was pretty much the only time my girls would ever "snuggle," so I took it where I could.
  • Now they are sassy...enough said.
  • Their clothes and shoes get a lot dirtier.
  • Babies sleep...a lot

Weight Loss Website

So I guess I need to do a new post, just to get the sad/depressing picture of Brooke sleeping in her car seat off the top of my blog and before someone calls DCFS on me. I can't believe people would think there is something wrong with that. Hello? Do your kids never fall asleep in the car? Same thing. I strap her in there, she falls asleep in about 2 minutes, and then I move her to her crib. We're all better off because of it.

Moving on. Thanks to a friend of mine, I've been introduced to what I think is a really awesome website. It's called sparkpeople.com and it's a weight loss/healthy living website. The awesome part about it, is that it allows you to track your calorie intake and your calorie burning very easily! And it projects a calorie/day and exercise/week that you need to meet to accomplish whatever your weight loss goal is. It's super easy, it's free and it really hasn't been very time consuming for me. Pretty much every food I could ever eat has already been entered in their system by someone, so all I have to do is enter it in and it calculates all of my nutrients for the day (or lack thereof).

So if you're like me and can't wait for summer...but are dreading going swimming suit shopping, then maybe you'll like this website as much as I do!

(On a funny side note, I gently encouraged [forced] Matt to join as well and when I was asking him his weight loss goals, I told him, "My goal is to lose 9 pounds by this summer." He kind of looked at me like I was mental or something and said, "That's way too long, I can't be healthy for that long! Put me down for 20 pounds in one month." Hahaha! Good luck w/ that!)
